Sunday Adelaja - The Face of Kiev

"First they ignore you,

Then they laugh at you,

Then they fight you,

Then you win."

Mahatma Ghandi

Dear Friends,

Greetings from Kiev!

A few days ago, an interesting competition was completed here in Kiev, the capital of Ukraine. A local magazine namedAfisha conducted their annual competition under the title "Who is the face of Kiev". The competition can be compared with Time magazine's annual competition"The man of the year".Pastor Sunday took the first place with more than 1/3 of the votes, beating to the second position, the most popular actor in the country, Bogdan Stupka; to the third place, the Heavy weight boxer Vitaliy Klitchko; to the fourth place, one of the richest Entrepreneurs in Ukraine, Victor Pinchuk; and to the fifth place the Mayor of Kiev, Leonid Chernovetskiy.

The nominees of the competition included the 30 most influential people in Ukraine. Among those were famous politicians, artists, professional sportsmen, people from show business, and other celebrities. This is the first time a Believer won this competition!

This is a fresh breath of air for us here, especially bearing in mind the last 5 months of grind pressure from political leaders and other leaders in the country against Pastor Sunday and the Embassy of God church. With this nomination the Word of the Scriptures comes to pass:

"You prepare a table before me, in the presence of my enemies.

You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows." (Ps 23:5)

Now, let us inform you about the situation of things generally here in Ukraine. Right now, the allegation against Pastor Sunday has not yet been cancelled; however we already see the hand of God mightily interfering in this situation.

The Head of the Police, Yuri Lutsenko, who has been the chief accuser against Pastor Sunday, and wanted to either chase him out of the country or put him in prison, is under a lot of pressure himself. He was caught drunk at the airport in Frankfurt, which ended in a scandal. After that he demanded for his resignation and he has just tended a resignation letter; and that with so much shame and disgrace (see the link: http://godembassy.org/en/news/news_publ.php?showdetail=4240).

Moreover, it has been sadly revealed in the newspaper that the 19 year old son of Mr. Lutsenko has been diagnosed with cancer. As a church we are praying for his healing and for the whole family, and we have offered our help to them.

We would like to remind you that a few weeks ago, four leading Ukrainian politicians denounced the political repression against Pastor Sunday.

The Ukrainian Minister of Justice, Mykola Onischyk:

"For Ukraine as a country to achieve democracy, it is necessary to keep the principle presuming innocence. It means that a person cannot be considered guilty or be accused of committing a crime until the verdict of the accused is passed."

The Deputy Head of the President Administration, Igor Popov:

"I am neither a judge nor a politician. That is why I do not accuse people without having sufficient information and judgment of court. Unfortunately, representatives of some law enforcement bodies use their status for political struggle. Instead of pursuing criminals they speak in mass media."

Political Scientist, Olexandr Doniy (who is from the same party as Mr. Lutsenko):

"I have not seen any documents proving the accusations of Sunday Adelaja. Moreover, Pastor Sunday Adelaja personally, and the members of his church, have the right to find out from the Ministry of Internal Affairs on what grounds the accusations are brought out."

The Previous Attorney General and National Deputy of Ukraine, Sviatoslav Piskun:

"We cannot talk about the issue of the Pastor without having any evidence. I consider it wrong when politicians get on TV, point at him and say: He is a criminal!.That is a direct violation of the Constitution, in which it is written that until guilt is proved in court (even not during the investigation, but in court) no one can be recognized as guilty."

The first politician to open the opposition against the accusations on Pastor Sunday was the Mayor of Kiev, Leonid Chernovetskiy, and he named it political repression

All this are just confirmations of what we've said all along - that Pastor Sunday has nothing to do with these false accusations. But we still want to ask all our friends to continue supporting us in prayer and we also want to use this opportunity to thank all those who have been praying for this situation.

We keep on praying that this whole thing will be canceled and that Pastor Sunday's name will be cleansed.

May God bless you and use you to establish His Kingdom on earth!

Sincerely Yours,

The Administration Team of the

Embassy of God Church in Kiev, Ukraine
